Welcome to Bay Books
We opened in May 2018 with one goal—to provide a bookstore and serve fellow book-lovers, near and far. We’ve always strove to provide a place of lively conversation and fantastic selection so that you can free your mind to go places, while enjoying our beautiful surroundings. We’re located in a unique place of beauty on the Leelanau Peninsula and whether you live here year-round or call this your ‘second’ home, we are here for you.

Meet Our Team:
Hi! My name is Autumn. I’m an avid reader, podcast listener, and native Michigander. You’ll usually find me reading literary fiction or nonfiction to help me be a better human. My love of working at Bay Books is twofold: 1) I get to be surrounded by books! I’m always adding titles to my tbr list. 2) Our customers are so supportive and have such great recommendations. I always learn something from my conversations with people who come into the shop. I am always happy to listen and learn from customers, as well as recommend something for their next read.
When I’m not in the shop, you can find me working on grad school coursework, thrifting, and always drinking coffee.
In 2018, award-winning mystery writer Marshall Thornton walked into Bay Books to drop off a book. He has been struggling to escape ever since. Currently, he is attempting to work his way out, despite have no retail experience. We’ll see if he’s successful
In the meantime, crouched between the extremely silly and incredibly romantic book sections, he finished his most recent comedic novel Fathers of the Bride. In more normal times he can be found in the mystery section trafficking in murder.
